About Our Presentation

The multiple wildfires that burned more than 50,000 acres in Los Angeles in January 2025 brought devastating impacts — claiming dozens of lives, destroying over 16,000 structures, and displacing thousands of families.

Though fire has always been part of the region’s ecology, the magnitude of these fires reveals how fire risk supercharged by climate whiplash threatens urban and suburban neighborhoods in increasingly destructive ways. The fires also highlighted the role of urban water systems in wildfire response, the (potential) mismatch between system design and intensifying fires in urbanized areas, and how these issues are both (mis)understood and politicized in the public sphere. The presentation will also focus on ways forward for resilience and public understanding of these issues.

Join us for a presentation and discussion about these and related topics. You won’t want to miss this timely presentation. Make your reservations today!
